Mozilla Thunderbird Installation and Setup Instructions for Windows
These directions are for Mozilla Thunderbird 22.214.171.124, but they should work for earlier versions as well. You can download the latest installer for your operating system here.
Double-click on the installer to beging installation.
Accept the license by clicking the proper radio button, then click Next.
Click Finish to launch Thunderbird and begin the account setup process.
Enter your name and e-mail address, then click Next.
Tell Thunderbird we are configuring an IMAP account, then enter the server names as shown and click Next.
Enter your account username. Your username is everything to the left of the @ sign in your e-mail address. Click Next.
Click Finish, but we aren't done yet!
Thunderbird now has to be told the correct way to connect to the mail server. Click Okay.
Go to Tools -> Account Settings.
Click Server Settings. Check the box in front of SSL. This will automatically change the port number from 143 to 993. If it doesn't, please change the port number to 993. Click Okay.
Click Outgoing Server (SMTP), then click Edit.
Change the port number from 25 to 587, make sure the check box in front Use name and password is checked, click the TLS radio button and click Okay.
Click Okay again to exit Account Settings.
Click the Get Mail icon. You will be prompted for your password. Enter it and check the box to have Thunderbird remember your password. Thunderbird will now download all of your IMAP folders. The first time you send an e-mail you will again be prompted for your password.
